7/24/2015 Where have I been:)?

Some of you may be wondering if I was still actively doing this or what has happened since there have been no updates to the web site in some time.  Well I guess the good news is that we are still growing and selling, but just not updating:)  I changed jobs and editing this site kind of fell off the priority list.  We changed the payment method to be a donation directly to the charity.   We no longer accept cash.  The payment must either be a check written to the charity, or a payment receipt from donating on the charity's website.  We divided the sale into two parts: an earlier vegetable plant sale, followed about 1 month later by the other plants(neem, curry leaf, parijat, etc).  That seemed to work out ok so we will probably repeat that next year.  I am looking to add a plant of two to the list so look for that.  I won't put the cart before the horse so I will mention those when the details are more settled.

I will see if I can dig up the info on how much we raised this year.  All I remember is that it was a lot more than last year.   Thanks and enjoy the rest of the summer.

8/18/2013 Preparations

I am happy to say that I have found another gardener who is probably more enthusiastic about growing plants than I am.  This will allow us to offer more varieties of plants next year.  Probably the greatest limitting factor in how many/what types of plants we can make available is overwintering space.  All juvenile plants need to be brought inside during the first winter or two.  If you like growing plants and want to talk about overwintering plants, drop us a line.

In addition to parijat, it looks like we will be able to have Bael at some point.  My new partner is very good at growing drumstick tree.  Also, at this point I also think I will be able to grow a good number (>20) stefanotis floribunda, jasmine nitidum, and one other jasmine that I need to id(but I think it is jui).   I will not start propogating them for another couple of months.

During the next few months we will start thinking about what vegetable plants we would like to be growing, so if you have any ideas of what you would like to see please pass them along.

Enjoy the last of summer everyone.

6/26/2013 Post sale

The sale went well.  Thanks for those who turned out.  For those who were unable to make it I hope we can meet next time.   A donation was made to Helping Hands (Udavum Karangal).  You can find the details on the 'Sale Results' page.

I have been working on growing parijat and have been quite successful thus far.  At the sale one auntie indicated that she had grown it in the ground and was able to get it to flower.   I will grow these over the winter so they are large enough for next spring.

I had a lot of green tulsi left over.  I think next time I will plant red and green tulsi.  Many people were looking at the red tulsi we brought outside so maybe that is more popular.

On the other hand, people really liked the stefanotis floribunda(Madagascar wedding flower).  I will have to produce more of those for next time.

Any feedback people have feel free to pass it along.

3/16/2013 Spring is Here-- Kind of:)

Work has been kind of hectic and I am trying to keep on top of a lot of plants.   I have put some jasmines outside as they were just growing too much for my garage.  I should have ~ 25-30 of them.  I can probably grow any number of them, but I don't want to be stuck with them as they grow too fast.

The stephanotis floribunda experiment was a success.  I have to count how many I have but it should be around 10-15.  I spent some time this morning repotting them into more permanent pots.

Tulsi is coming along, although I got a later start on it than I wanted.

I have ~40 lemon grass plants which I don't think I mentioned before.

Last but not least, I have to repot the curry leafs still and get them in good shape for the sale.  I won't sell them unless they look good.  I have about 15 left over from last year and should have ~50 from this year.

I will not be able to offer parijat this year.  My germination was not good.  I have a plant and will propogate is vegetatively, but I have to wait for it to grow more before doing that.  Sorry for that.
